A Day of Words and Voices
Today was one of those rare days when I felt completely engaged from start to finish. The Philosophy Department of our college conducted a series of events, and I was happy to take part in both the essay writing competition and the speech competition.
The topic for the speech was very meaningful: “Teachers are like candles that light the way for others". For five minutes, I spoke about how teachers dedicate themselves selflessly, giving light and direction to their students, even when it means burning themselves in the process. I thought about my own teachers like, the way they guide us with patience and care and those thoughts gave me strength while speaking.
What made the speech competition even more enjoyable was not just delivering my own speech but also listening to my fellow participants. Each person had their own way of expressing the same idea, and it was inspiring to see so many perspectives on the same theme. Some used stories, others used examples from history, while a few spoke in a more poetic style. Together, it felt like a celebration of gratitude toward our teachers.
After the speech, I also joined in essay writing and even participated in a debate session that was happening. The debates were lively and fun. There was a lot of exchange of ideas, sometimes disagreements, but all in good spirit. It was not just about winning or losing, but about sharpening our thoughts and learning how to listen as much as we speak.
What stood out for me today was the atmosphere. There was energy in every corner. students discussing, sharing, laughing, and supporting one another. I got to spend time with people from other departments. We were not just competitors; we were also learners together.
At the end of the day, I did not feel that I had wasted even a single minute. The experience was both useful and enjoyable. I walked away with more confidence in my ability to speak, write, and think on my feet. Most of all, I felt grateful for teachers who inspire us, grateful for classmates who challenge and encourage us, and grateful for opportunities like this that help us grow.
Sometimes, learning doesn’t only happen inside the classroom. It happens in moments like these, where we test ourselves, share ideas, and realize that knowledge can also be joy. Today was such a day for me, and I will remember it as a day filled with words, voices, and meaningful connections.
